There is plenty of golf to be played at WGC. Whether your preference is competitive golf or social golf (or both) we have everything to give you the golfing experience you desire.
Competition Golf
Throughout the year we have a variety of knock outs for all sections of the club including singles and pairs competitions. These are keenly fought through the year with our dedicated Finals Day being held in early September each year. Please note that all entrants must have submitted a minimum of 9 qualifying scores in the previous year to be eligible for entry into these knockout competitions.
Ongoing competitions throughout the year include the usual mix of medals and stablefords which for the Gents are played on a mixture of Saturday and Sundays, for the Ladies on Tuesdays with an alternative day available also and for the Seniors usually a Monday. We also have a number of mixed competitions throughout the year to add to our eclectic mix of competition golf.
We have a variety of ‘fun competition’ events too including Les Hanock Day Texas Scramble, Monty’s Eye Patch Challenge, Night Golf and plenty more to have some fun on the course with a little competitive spirit thrown in.
We have a mix of open competitions which members may enter subject to eligibility and, if playing Opens at your home club is not your thing, you can always do a spot of much appreciated volunteering at those events.
We have a variety of away days including Captain’s, President’s and Lady Captain’s away days plus our ever popular mixed away day.
We even have a snooker competition held throughout the winter if the above has not whetted your competition appetite enough.
Social Golf
Our ever popular Hi-Lo events are held every 2 weeks throughout the winter. These events are played as fourballs and are drawn so that you get to meet a lot of other members playing in these events. They are fun at heart, although there is some competition element to them, but they are predominately a fun event. There is nearly always in excess of 60+ golfers playing these events which provide a great club atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards.
There are also plenty of organised social roll up events every week so if you are looking for a game there will always be a group you are able to join. Most of these groups enjoy some good times in the bar afterwards and some even hold formal dinners and presentations throughout the year so there is plenty to get involved with.
If just having a knock on your own is your thing, the course is available for you to enjoy a round. We limit the number of green fee paying visitors and society golf plus we don't have a member's tee booking system, so access to the course is available for a large percentage of time for our members. So that means you have plenty opportunity to play golf. The course layout allows you to play holes in a different order to the course layout, subject of course to ensuring you do not disrupt other golfers’ games, so if you only have time for a few holes you can play a variety of holes and if you are a single golfer you can move around the course to a degree if there are groups slower playing golfers in front of you.
